Safety and Accreditation

Your child’s health and safety are always our top priority. Camp Chandler meets the strict requirements of the American Camp Association as well as the yearly inspection and licensing of the State of Alabama. Accreditation by the American Camp Association was developed exclusively for the camp profession. This nationally recognized program focuses on quality and health and safety issues. It requires us to review every aspect of our operation. YMCA Camp Chandler has voluntarily submitted to this independent appraisal done by camping experts and has earned this mark of distinction. All campers and staff must have a physician’s medical exam within the past twenty-four months. All staff are trained in American Red Cross CPR and First Aid. Our infirmary is well-stocked and opened daily for care of minor scrapes or illnesses and dispensing of medications. In addition, an automatic external defibrillator, oxygen, an epi-pen, and an albuterol inhaler are kept on-site for emergencies. The camp doctor is on-call 24 hours a day; Camp Chandler is located only seven minutes from the hospital. Parents/Guardians are notified immediately in the event of an accident or incident.
