Boys and Girls in Grades K-3, Ages 5-9
The Montgomery YMCA Indian Programs are designed to build and strengthen
relationships between Dads and their sons and daughters. Programs provide
opportunities for Dads and their children to grow together.
Tribes
Dads and children are organized in to tribes composed of 6 to 9 children,
usually from the same school or neighborhood. Parents and children attend
meetings together twice a month. The meetings are short and interesting
and are held in members’ homes.
Activities
The program of each tribe varies with the initiative and imagination of
the members. Meetings include games, snacks, stories, and activities. Tribal
activities also include: campouts, outings, handicraft projects, swimming,
parties, and much much more.
Events
Once a month, all participants get together for a big event such as: a camp
out at Camp Chandler, bowling, a pool party, a pine car race, or a daddy/daughter
dance. The fall and spring Pow Wow at YMCA Camp Chandler are the highlights
of the year. Dads and children enjoy an overnight with fun-filled activities
such as archery, Riflery, canoeing and arts and crafts. We have a delicious
fried chicken supper, ice cream social, and a fantastic bonfire ceremony.
